May Day marks the start of warmer weather, blossom-filled trees and flowers, and is traditionally a Bank Holiday!

The celebration of May Day dates back to ancient times when Romans celebrated the festival of Flora, the goddess of flowers and spring. Did you know that the word May comes from the Latin ‘Maius’, named after Maia, a Roman goddess of growth? Many of the old customs celebrating new life survive to this day, including Morris dancing and dancing around the maypole.

According to old superstitions, it is unlucky to marry, buy a broom or wash a blanket in May. But that doesn’t stop you from proposing with a ring from F.Hinds or Warren James or buying a new vacuum from Argos? #justsaying
